Pixel Animation 2015 wrap up

on November 12, 2015

Pixel Animation 2015 Group Photo

Pixel was an unique event in the beautiful city of Quebec, Canada where the audience had access to meet and learn directly from industry professionals. Being the program director, it was key for me to give the same love and attention as we do at iAnimate, hence why it was only natural to have some of our instructors participate.  Audience had a chance to hangout with the all of the speakers coming from Pixar, Disney, Blue Sky, ILM, Pixomondo, Blizzard, CD Projekt Red but most importantly came out learning and more inspired than ever!

iAnimate Feature Alumni Testimonial - Warren Seeley

on September 28, 2015

Warren Seeley Feature alumni testimonial

Recent Graduate, Warren Seeley, sent Jason Ryan (our Head of Character Animation) an email that we wanted share. Congratulations to Warren and all our recent graduates.

Hi Jason,
I just had my last class for WS7 and now done with the feature film program.  A part of me wishes it wasn't over.  This has been an absolute amazing experience. I could never have imagined what I was in for when I started. It just blew my mind the talent, the experience, the enthusiasm, the passion each of the instructors and students all had.  And always have.
These instructors, they don't just teach animation, they teach what it means to live a life as an animator and that's something that doesn't get discussed a whole lot I feel.  It definitely isn't easy but seeing these all star animators and hearing their stories and views is gold.
iAnimate is the best.  I just feel so happy and glad I did this.  I'm so grateful for the whole experience.  Thank you so much Jason for making this online school happen.  I hope it lasts forever and just keeps growing and improving.  I'll be at CTN again this year so I can't wait to see ya there!
Take care Jason!
Warren

Why animating "scenes" is good

Why animating scenes is good

This October I will be teaching the “Advanced Sequence Work” workshop at iAnimate.net. More simply known as Feature Workshop 6. And while I have been teaching it since the inception of the school, I have always felt that it is the most mysterious and misunderstood course we have in our repertoire. I think most animators think of it as merely a stepping stone “short film” style course on their way to “graduation”. As you might imagine, I see it as much more valuable than that, and here’s why.

First, it’s not a “short film” class.
While we do create quick storyboards to work out the overall staging and editorial timing of your scene, the class is not a writing or directing exercise. Animators will be using dialog from other sources, just like normal, and coming up with original interpretations of the scene, and using all the convention methods to come up with overall staging and performance. My students are encouraged not to waste their valuable time inventing and modeling elaborate sets and props. The focus is on acting! And we spend the entire block working on your one scene. Now there’s some polish!

New Feature Workshop - Advanced Pantomime Acting

on August 31, 2015

New Feature Workshop 3.5

He's Back! And With A New Workshop. Jamaal Bradley took some time off from teaching at iAnimate to pursue some unique career opportunities. During his hiatus he traveled to India where he was an Animation Supervisor on Penguins of Madagascar. He's currently enjoying working directly with James Baxter, Chris Sanders, & Kirk DeMicco as an Animation Supervisor on Croods 2. He's back with a new Feature workshop - Advanced Pantomime Acting. In this class your animated piece will be an exploration of making your character entertain, evoke emotion, and breath life without the use of dialogue. This is an essential skill in your journey as an animator and entertainer. "Together we will build an understanding of thoughts and actions that will drive our characters." - Jamaal
