iAnimate Game Student Spotlight - Hannah Masbaum

Hannah Masbaum student spotlight

Why did you decide to enroll into iAnimate?

I knew that I wanted to be an animator for games for a long time, but I could easily see that I was nowhere near the skill level I needed to be to land a job. Realizing that my years of largely self-teaching weren’t getting me as far as I wanted to be, I started doing some research online to see what different programs were out there, which led me to iAnimate. Watching the previous year’s game workshop reels is what really solidified the decision for me. The amazing student work, combined with the ability to have access to the vault lectures, as well as the top-tier instructors, were all more than enough reasons for me to see that iAnimate was exactly what I’d been looking for.

How are the workshops?

All of the workshops are amazing and extremely helpful to anybody who wants to get into animation for games. They gave me real world knowledge and expertise that I could have only otherwise gained through working at a game studio. Having all of the assignments centered around projects that we could potentially be doing at an actual game studio helped prepare me for what I could expect to be doing day-to-day as an animator. Going from iAnimate to working full-time as an animator was an easy transition due to the focus each workshop had on creating game-ready animations and receiving feedback throughout the process of each animation.

iAnimate Game Student Spotlight - Jeff Nelson

Why did you decided to enroll into iAnimate?

My experience as a professional animator thus far has mostly been motion graphics and composting work for web and television.  About a year ago I started looking for avenues within animation that were more aligned with my interests and in the end more rewarding. Deep down I always knew that was games but I wasn’t sure how to pursue that goal. Lucky for me I met someone in the iAnimate Feature Workshops and learned about the Gaming Workshops.  After seeing her stunning iAnimate work I decided to browse the website and was blown away.  The beautiful character rigs, amazing showreels and the quality of instructors sold me.

Did you enjoy your time at iAnimate?

From the very first class I knew I had made the right choice.  Learning under industry pros and being in a virtual classroom with other talented animators from all over the world was a rewarding experience. I enjoyed my time at iAnimate because every lesson, assignment and critique made feel closer and more prepared for my goal.

How did you find iAnimate?
I originally found iAnimate when I was looking for a program that would teach me how to animate specifically for games.  I have always been a big fan of video games and this is the industry I was wanting to get into.  After doing a lot research online,  iAnimate's name kept appearing.  They had an impressive list of teachers and referrals from past students. Their Games Workshop Reel was stunning.  I knew this was the place for me.  It has been one of the best decisions to register for their workshops.  I since have completed all of the Games Workshop program and the Motion Capture workshops.

Why did you decided to enroll?
I decided to enroll at iAnimate after viewing their impressive Game Workshop Reel. I was hungry to learn more about animation and get into the gaming industry.  The quality of the student animation, their rigs and iAnimate's list of triple A studio teachers was what convinced me that these workshops were exactly what I was looking for.

iAnimate Game Student Spotlight - Olov Johansson

Olov Johansson Spotlight

Our talented Game animation student, Olov Johansson, shares his thoughts on his time here as well as his animation journey. Read his write up below & watch his action packed reel.

Still being new to animation I never had the chance to talk to other animators before getting into iAnimate. It has been a great way to get to know people with a common interest and to be in an environment where people talk about animation with sincerity and intensity. It is really valuable and inspiring to have instructors that are invested and enthusiastic about animation and each students work.

iAnimate Games Alumni Spotlight - Emily Harrenstein

Game Alumni Emily Harrenstein interview

iA: Why did you decide to enroll into iAnimate?
Back in 2010 I was out of work and struggling to break into the animation industry. I attended CTN-X thinking that I might somehow land a job. It turned out everyone who reviewed my reel thought I needed more training. I was pretty disheartened after hearing that, as I had already spent a year going to a school in Vancouver, BC, had worked a 3D job for almost 3 years, and I didn’t have the time or money to attend a brick and mortar school again. That’s when I stumbled across iAnimate’s booth, and met Jason Ryan in person. He told me about the school and the fact that I could take a break between workshops if I needed, and he seemed so genuine that I was sold. I first started out with the feature programs, then after a year’s break decided to pursue gaming animation. I completed the gaming program in August, 2014.

iAnimate Games Student Spotlight - Don Thurakichprempri

Don Thurakichprempri testimonial banner

Don Thurakichprempri recently landed a job at Treyarch and now working on the new Call of Duty. This is what he had to say about his time here at iAnimate.

Having taken online classes before, when I heard about iAnimate and saw the work that the students were putting out. The quality was outstanding and I was sold once I saw the large variety of teachers that I could pick from. I chose to do the Games Animation Workshop because I wanted to strengthen my knowledge of body mechanics and it was definitely the right choice. David Lam and Ric Arroyo were absolutely fantastic instructors who both had a plethora of animation knowledge. They treated the course as if we were in a studio and gave feedback accordingly. This set up a certain standard for shots to be finished and polished on time just as it would be expected of animators in a professional setting and I feel like that truly benefits any student who is serious about working in the industry. Overall, it was an amazing experience and I feel like I improved drastically. I would recommend iAnimate to any animator who is looking to up their game and is willing to put in the effort to better their skill set!

Testimonial from Daniel Alexander - iAnimate Games student

Daniel Alexander testimonial banner

When I decided I wanted to further my education, I knew I wanted to explore the option of taking online courses. There was one problem however, I had no idea which route to go. I did my best to educate myself with all of the options out there in hopes to make the best decision for myself, each had their merits, but ultimately, it was still a shot in the dark. This obviously drew me to choose iAnimate, with a large collection of fun and interesting character & creature rigs, workshops focused on what I wanted to learn, and a great collection of industry veterans to lead the way.

Thankfully, I couldn't be happier with my choice. iAnimate goes beyond offering great character rigs and truly delivers an incredible educational experience.

Testimonial from Daniel Bodinof - iAnimate Games student

Daniel Bodinof testimonial banner

My name is Daniel Bodinof, I've been a 2d television animator for 14 years, but 5 months ago I had a realization that what I truly wanted to do was animate for Video Games. I'd never touched Maya before and my reel didn't have anything that showed any knowledge of 3d let alone video game mechanics. I knew I needed insider experience and instruction. When I was researching my options, iAnimate's games workshop seemed to be exactly what I needed. I got to learn from David Lam, one of the best in the business. I was given real assignments like you would receive at a studio job, and I was encouraged to push for industry quality. 14 weeks later I had a demo reel that got me a job at my first studio of choice that I applied to. Sounds crazy but its true. Thanks iAnimate!
